Anti-smuggling drive in Balochistan in full swing

The anti-smuggling drive is in full swing in Balochistan as the Directorate of Intelligence and Investigation-FBR Quetta on Monday has claimed to have confiscated 28 smuggled luxury vehicles and a huge cache of hashish and Kenyan tea worth in millions during the last 70 days.

According to official sources, the performance of the Directorate remains phenomenal during the last two months, despite an inadequate workforce and logistics. Presently, only 27 officials including officers and sepoys are responsible for patrolling the whole Balochistan borders abutting Afghanistan, Iran and 700 miles of coastline.

They said that the Directorate has apprehended 28 duty unpaid vehicles during the last 70 days under the leadership of Muhammad Iqbal Bhawana. However, the said office had earlier reported only three such seizures during September 2012 to November 2012. In addition, the Directorate had also seized 36 falcons from Jiwani, which was the biggest ever seizure on the high seas. A huge cache of hashish was confiscated from Chaman-Quetta road; around two tons of Kenyan tea was detained from Sariab road Quetta while Iranian diesel was also impounded from Jiwani during the aforesaid period.
