United Baloch Army kill 22 passengers in Balochistan

QUETTA: Gunmen disguised as members of the Pakistani security forces killed at least 22 passengers on Friday night after forcing them off buses travelling from the western city of Quetta to Karachi on the southern coast, officials said.

The assault in the province of Balochistan occurred in the town of Mastung.

“Fifteen to 20 armed men in three pickup trucks and wearing security uniforms kidnapped around 35 passengers,” Sarfaraz Bugti, Balochistan’s home minister, towld Reuters. Bugti also alleged that India’s intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) was involved in the killings.

Mureed Baloch, a militant who identifies himself as the spokesman of United Baloch Army (UBA), which has attacked security forces in the past, claimed the bus attacks on Saturday.

In Quetta, the family members and relatives of those killed in the Mastung massacre protested outside the Governor House with victims’ bodies laid beside them. They decided to continue the protest after negotiations between them and the administration failed.

BLF killed 20 construction workers in Turbat

QUETTA (AFP) - Gunmen have killed 20 construction workers in Pakistan s restive southwestern province of Balochistan, shooting them at point blank range after identifying they were not local, officials said Saturday.

Balochistan is plagued by violence, with separatists seeking greater control over the province s rich oil, gas and mineral resources, and gunmen have previously targeted outsiders seen as settlers.

The Baloch Liberation Front (BLF) claimed responsibility for the incident.

"Gunmen stormed the camp of labourers in Gokh Don area of Baluchistan late Friday night and killed 20 labourers," senior police official Tariq Khilji told AFP. He said those killed were all from outside the province -- 16 of them from Punjab and four from Sindh province. The incident, which occurred around 1,050 kilometres (650 miles) southwest of Quetta, was confirmed by Akbar Hussain Durrani, a senior administration official in the province.

"The labourers were working on construction of a small local bridge," he said. Hussain said some of the labourers reported being woken from their sleep by the sound of gunshots and screams.

"They had lined them up and shot them at point blank range after identifying their identity," he said.

Goran Baloch, a spokesman for BLF said the group would carry out more attacks.

Baloch militants attack on Jaffar Express in Sibi leaves 16 dead, 44 injured

SIBI / QUETTA: A woman and five children among 16 people were killed when the United Baloch Army (UBA) detonated a bomb on the Quetta-Rawalpindi passenger train Jaffar Express at Sibi railway station.

The deadly bombing left 44 people injured, five of whom with critical wounds. They were transported to Quetta. “The blast took place inside bogie number 9 of passenger Train Jaffar Express, which was on its way to Rawalpindi from Quetta,” Qazi Hussain, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) police Sibi told Express Tribune. Railway employees and police officials detached the bogie from other bogies in order to keep the fire from spreading.

Police investigators said around 20 kilograms of explosive materials were used in the blast. “It seems the explosive materials were planted inside the passenger train at Sibi railway station,” a railway official said.
The bogie caught fire and 16 people inside the bogie were burnt to death while more than 40 others sustained injuries.

The United Baloch Army claimed responsibility for the attack, BBC Urdu reported.
Charred beyond recognition, the bodies of the deceased were transported to Quetta so that their identities could be determined by DNA testing.

Rescue workers, fire fighters, police and security forces rushed to the station and transported the injured and deceased to Civil Hospital Sibi. Fire fighters managed to bring the fire under control after 40 minutes of struggle.

Some of the injured were shifted to Combined Military Hospital Sibi, while five injured with critical wounds were transported to Quetta by army helicopters.

Jaffar Express later left for its destination Rawalpindi after the conclusion of rescue operation in the blast site.
“We received 12 dead bodies and 41 injured and most of them are in critical condition. Women and children are among the injured,” said Ghulam Sarwar, Medical Superintendent (MS) of Civil Hospital Sibi told The Express Tribune.

President Mamnoon Hussain condemned the killings in the blast which occurred ten minutes after the train stopped at the railway station.

Railway Minister Khwaja Saad Rafiq said that the attack could be in retaliation of yesterday’s search operation by security forces in Balochistan in which 30 suspected militants were killed.

Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch has strongly condemned the incident and sought a report on the incident. “An investigation comprising officials of Pakistan Army, Frontier Corps (FC) and police has been formed,” an Balochistan government official said

Baloch VS Baloch: BRA killed Ghazi Khan and Seven members of his family

SOHBATPUR: At least eight members of a family, including women and children, were killed by a dozen or so insurgents from the outlawed Baloch Republican Army (BRA) after they stormed their house in Sohbatpur district on Sunday.

According to police sources, around a dozen men armed with automatic weapons attacked the house of a local landlord, Ghazi Khan Marhata Bugti, in the Doudatba area early in the morning at around 1:30 am.
The attackers indiscriminately fired at the residents and killed Ghazi Khan, his wife Sehat Khatoon, brother Imam Bux, sister-in-law Mungal Khatoon, son Pathan Khan and three grandchildren.

According to reports, the attackers were drawn into a firefight with the local peace militia just as they were fleeing the area. Two insurgents and one militia member died in the shoot-out.

The deceased insurgents were later identified as Shera Hamzani Bugti and Madu Sundrani Bugti, members of the banned militant outfit. According to reports, the BRA accused Ghazi Khan of collaborating with the security forces.

According to the FC spokesperson, following the reporting of the incident by local residents, FC’s special squad reached the spot and threw a cordon round the area.

Later, the FC troops engaged the alleged attackers in an hours-long firefight. The FC claimed that six more terrorists were killed as a result of their retaliatory measures. The paramilitary force also claimed to have captured a huge cache of arms.

Four people were killed and 65 injured in BRA attack on Train

Four people were killed and 65 injured on Friday when a passenger train derailed following a bomb explosion on its tracks in southern Punjab. The Baloch Republican Army (BRA) claimed responsibility for the attack.

The Khushaal Khan Khattak Express – which was en route to Karachi from Peshawar – was chugging past the rural area of Omar Kot, in Rojhan sub-district of Rajanpur, when the attack took place, officials said.
A timed device planted on the track went off moments after the locomotive crossed it. All seven wagons, carrying around 400 passengers, derailed and four of the wagons fell into a nearby nala.

Railways Minister Khwaja Saad Rafique ordered an inquiry into the incident and announced Rs500,000 compensation for heirs of each of the dead and Rs100,000 for each injured.

BRA spokesperson Arbaz Khan claimed responsibility for the attack.

BLF kills two Christian sweepers in Turbat

Two Christians, who worked as sweepers in Turbat, were gunned down Thursday by a Baloch militant group. The two victims were identified as Musthtaq Masih and Ilyas Masih.

"The killings took place within the limits of the municipal corporation," Deputy Commissioner of Kech District Abdul Hameed Abro told this correspondent on phone from Turbat. However, he did not have any further information,

According, to the local sources they two were in their 40s and employed as sanitary workers with Turbat Municipal Corporation. Turbat is hometown of Balochistan chief minister Dr. Malik Baloch, the two sweepers went to Zor Bazar in Turbat and were busy opening a blocked sewerage line as the dirty water was overflowing on the road when they were gunned down. Most Muslims all over Pakistan shun the work of opening sewer lines and the low paid job is done mainly by Christians.

The Baloch Liberation Tigers, a pseudonym used by the Baloch Liberation Front of Dr. Allah Nazar Baloch, owned responsibility for the killings.

Senator Mr Hasil Bizenjo strongly condemned the killings of the poor Christians. "This shameful act is a huge disgrace for the Baloch struggle for rights," Bizenjo said on phone from Quetta, capital of Balochistan. "The killings show the depths of the political abyss the militants have fallen into," he added.

Pakistan Christian Congress also strongly condemned the killings of the two innocent Christian sweepers.

"Killing poor people and laborers is the height of inhumanity," P.C.C. president Dr. Nazir Bhatti, who is based in Philadelphia, said. "The difference between Taliban and the Baloch militants is fast eroding as their brutal tactics are now basically one," Dr. Bhatti said.

Apparently, the main sin of the two victims was they spoke Punjabi. Most Christians in Pakistan belong to Punjab, the dominant of the four provinces, but they eke out a slave-like existence working as sweepers.

• Imposing terror, creating information “black holes” in southwestern Pakistan and turning the city of Khuzdar into one of the world’s most dangerous places for the media.

• Constantly threatening news providers and their families in order to force them to censor themselves.

• Threatening news media and their reporters with reprisals if they give you “negative” coverage or if they refuse to report your activities and public statements.

• Carrying out bombings, the aims of which have included killing journalists who go to cover the targeted events.

HRCP report on Balochistan: Insurgents, sectarian militants on same page

LAHORE: A fact finding report submitted by Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) reveals conflicting reports that the pattern of terrorist attacks in Balochistan during the recent past indicate some operational coordination between sectarian militant groups and Baloch insurgents.

The HRCP was not in a position to verify the claim but demanded that such allegations must be taken seriously and investigated fully and, if any evidence of such collaboration was found, it must be made public.

The commission report looked at the terrorist attack on students of a women’s university in Quetta and the subsequent attack at a hospital where the casualties were taken, and also the bombing at Quaid-e-Azam Residency in Ziarat.

It also held meetings with representatives of the new political administration and a cross section of society. There was near unanimity among all interlocutors that formation of the new government was a sign of hope that the province’s problems would be addressed.

The government formation was considered to be a positive step which could lead to an opportunity for ending grave human rights violations in the province, said the report. However, the same interlocutors warned that they did not see many signs of a change in policy within the security and intelligence agencies as the kill-and-dump policy continue.

Political administrators voiced that the law and order situation in Balochistan remained dismal as citizens were living in perpetual fear. They alleged public had little security of life and indignity at the hands of the security forces is routine.

The report went on to say the religious minorities were particularly vulnerable in the province. Kidnapping for ransom remained unchecked and the citizens had no option but to pay money for the recovery of abducted relatives, it added.

The positive aspect, which HRCP mentioned in its report, is the trust shown by public in democratic set-up. Despite threats from insurgents asking people to stay away from the elections, even the political parties that had boycotted the 2008 elections contested the May 2013 election and were backed by the people, said the report.

It was also a resounding vote for democracy and ending the bloodshed in the province, asserted the HRCP report.

On the occasion of the report launch on Sunday, the HRCP Executive Council expressed grave concern over reports of poor relief in Awaran and lack of access and demanded that the situation must be remedied without delay.

Baloch VS Baloch: Noor Ahmed Buledi Killed By Baloch Militants

QUETTA: Armed militants killed the younger brother of former provincial minister Zahoor Buledi in the Kech district of Balochistan on Wednesday.

Levies sources said two people on a motorcycle opened fire at the vehicle of Noor Ahmed Buledi near Buleda dam area of Turbat. The younger brother of the former provincial minister was shot dead on the spot.

The militants fled from the scene after the attack. Noor Ahmed Buledi was also the cousin of National Party MPA Muhammad Azeem Buledi. The incident comes two weeks after the killing of a nephew of Spokesman Chief Minister Balochistan, Jan Muhammad Buledi in the same area.

Jan Mohammad Buledi was the central secretary information of the National Party led by Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch. Levies officials initially said they suspected Baloch separatists of being involved in the killing of Jan Mohammad Buledi.

Later on the defunct Balochistan Liberation Tigers had claimed responsibility for the attack.

Baloch Militants Killed 13 labourers in Bolan district

They were going home to celebrate Eid with their families. Little did they know that their lives would be snuffed out by cold-blooded murderers. Thirteen people – mostly day-labourers from Punjab – were pulled out of passenger buses and shot at pointblank range in an ethnically-motivated attack in Bolan district on Tuesday.

The Baloch Liberation Army, one of several proscribed groups responsible for most separatist and ethnic violence in Balochistan, claimed credit for the grisly killings in the Machh area of Bolan, some 80 kilometres away from Quetta.

The assault was carried out by 150-200 insurgents, who were dressed in the uniforms of paramilitary Frontier Corps and Balochistan Levies.

“The militants stopped five to six passenger coaches at two fake checkpoints on the main highway and snatched 13 passengers from Punjab after checking their national identity cards,” Bolan Deputy Commissioner Abdul Waheed Shah said. “The militants took them to the nearby mountains and shot them dead.”

Two of the slain passengers belonged to the security agencies: one was from Pakistan Army and the other from Kalat Scouts. The militants spared two Seraiki-speaking passengers.

Machh Assistant Commissioner Khasif Muhamamd Shai confirmed the incident and said the bullet-riddled bodies had been recovered.

The bodies were shifted to Quetta’s Civil Hospital in the afternoon. All the victims were shot in the head. They were identified as Ahmed Ali, Shakeel Ahmed, Muhammad Bakhsh, Muhammad Asif, Muhamamd Aslam, Saqib Ali, Hawaldar Arshad, Shahid, Shakeel Ahmed, Abdul Malik, Muhamamd Ashraf, Shaukat Ali, Lans Naik Safeer Ahmed. All of them hailed from different regions of Punjab.

Muhammad Yousaf, who lost a relative in the attack, said that most of the men were day-labourers who had gone over to Iran in search of work. “I was also scheduled to travel to Alipur in Punjab – but now this tragedy happened,” Yousaf told The Express Tribune at the Civil Hospital’s mortuary.

Another man who lost his brother and a nephew told journalists that they belonged to the impoverished Rahim Yar Khan district of Punjab and worked at an optician’s shop here. “Four of my relatives were travelling to Rahim Yar Khan. The militants killed my brother and nephew and spared the two others,” he added.

BLA spokesman Meerak Baloch claimed responsibility for the killings. “These 13 people were either employees of the army or of other security institutions,” he told AFP by telephone from an undisclosed location.

The spokesman said the insurgents kidnapped 25 people, but later let seven passengers and five security personnel go. “An FC patrol party tried to follow us, so we killed two of them while another two were injured,” he added.

Baloch VS Baloch: BLA killed Son, brother and nephew of Sardar Zehri

QUETTA, April 16: Four people were killed when an election convoy of PML-N’s Balochistan leader Sardar Sanaullah Zehri came under a bomb attack in Anjira area of Khuzdar on Tuesday.

Sardar Zehri survived the attack but his son, brother and nephew and a guard were killed. At least 25 people were injured.

The PML-N leader is contesting for one national and one provincial assembly seats from Khuzdar and Kalat districts.

The banned Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for the bomb attack. In a call from an unspecified place, BLA’s spokesman Jiand Baloch told BBC that his organisation had carried out the attack.


Sources said there were about 30 vehicles in the convoy. The powerful blast took place at a bridge near the Anjira area of Zehri tehsil. “The son of Sardar Zehri, his brother, nephew and a guard were killed on the spot when their vehicle was blown up,” Qazi Hussain Ahmed, Deputy Inspector General of Police, Khuzdar Range, told Dawn. Three other vehicles were badly damaged, he said.

“The blast took place when the bullet-proof vehicle of Sardar Zehri had crossed the bridge,” the sources said. Some reports suggesting that Sardar Zehri had received minor injuries were not confirmed by officials and PML-N sources.

Commissioner of Kalat division Dr Mohammad Akbar said that an improvised explosive device (IED) planted under the bridge was detonated with remote control, but it could not explode because of jammers in the Sardar vehicle. But the IED hit the vehicle carrying his son Sikandar Zehri, brother Mir Meharullah Zehri, nephew Zaib Zehri, killing them and the guard whose identity could not ascertained till late night.

The commissioner said the district administration had not been informed about the movement of the convoy. Besides, Dr Akbar said, Levies Force personnel posted in the area were not trained and had no equipment to detect explosive devices. “It is the first blast of its nature in the area,” he said.

The injured were taken to the Khuzdar district hospital where at least five of them were in critical condition. Interior Minister Malik Habib has asked Balochistan’s inspector general of police to submit a report about the incident.

After the bomb attack, the provincial government strengthened security of Sardar Sanaullah Zehri and deployed 25 soldiers of Anti-Terrorist Force and Levies Force.

Baloch VS Baloch: Hakmal Khan Raisani Killed By BRA

Two persons, including the nephew of Chief Minister Balochistan Nawab Aslam Raisani, were killed and 39 others sustained injuries in an explosion followed by intense firing at a football stadium in Mastung on 29-July-2011.

The explosion happened after the prize distribution ceremony of All-Pakistan Football Tournament in Mastung.

Siraj’s 14-year-old son, and chief minister’s nephew, Akmal Raisani sustained serious injuries in the attack and was rushed to Combined Military Hospital, Quetta for treatment where he succumbed to his injuries.


Outlawed Baloch Republican Army (BRA) claimed responsibility for the attack.
A spokesperson for BRA who identified himself as Sarbaz Baloch said: “The BRA will target economic installations and security forces in the future as well.”

Baloch VS Baloch: BRA attacked Ahmadan Bugti

Quetta—Member National Assembly Mir Ahmadan Bugti and 17 other people were injured in an  explosion that took place on Friday at the Gol Chowk in Balochistan province’s Dera Bugti district.

Balochistan Republican Army accepted the responsibility for the attack.

The blast occurred near a mosque as people were leaving its premises after offering Friday prayers. Levies sources said a remote-controlled bomb was used in the explosion and the target of the attack  was Bugti, a member of the Pakistan Muslim League - Quaid (PML-Q).

Two of the injured are said to be in critical condition.

The explosion caused damage to shops and vehicles and created panic among residents of the locality.Ahmadan Bugti and his son were discharged after first aid and were shifted to Multan for further treatment.

Banned Baloch Republican Army has accepted the responsibility for the attack. BRA spokesman Sarbaz Baloch claimed that target of the attack was Ahmadan Bugi for his alleged anti Baloch activities.


Earlier, In 2008, Ahmadan Bugti’s son Liaquat Ali Bugti survived two separate targeted bomb blasts. Separatist militants, the Baloch Republican Army, had claimed responsibility of one of the attacks.

Baloch Militants Killed 10 laborers in Mastung

In a grisly execution-style attack on Thursday, 10 labourers were killed and four injured when assailants sprayed bullets at workers in the Dasht area of Mastung district. According to one witness, the labourers were lined up and then shot.

The labourers were working on a road project in the town of Dasht, about 25 kilometres south of Quetta, when a group of four or five armed men ambushed them and opened fire, according to Mastung Deputy Commissioner Irfan Shaheen Gharseen. The United Balochistan Liberation Army has claimed responsibility for the attack.

The Dasht area has become a flashpoint. It also seems to have become a safe haven for terrorists, who have carried out frequent bomb blasts and attacks on police and security forces.


Eye witnesses recounted gruesome scenes of Thursday’s attack. Birat Khan, a witness to the incident, told The Express Tribune that men riding motorbikes forced the labourers to line up on the roadside, and then proceeded to open fire on them.

Ghulam Sarwar, another witness, said women and children in the surrounding areas also witnessed the bloodcurdling massacre.

The victims were all residents of Quetta, identified as Noor Mohammad, Aurangzaib, Mohammad Saleem, Barat Khan, Daro Khan, Khano, Yar Mohamamd, Akbar, Nehmatullah and Abdul Ghaffar. The injured were identified as Murtaza Khan, Barak Khan, Gulab Khan and Baran Khan.

BRP Claimed the responsibly of Ten persons Killing

QUETTA - At least 10 people were killed and 15 others injured when unidentified armed men opened fire on four buses in separate incidents in Sibi and Bolan districts of Balochistan late on Sunday night.

Per details, the first incident near Colmagi involved a bus traveling to Quetta from Nawabshah and a truck. The assailants opened fire on the two vehicles, killing four people on the spot. The second incident occurred in Bala Nari area of Bolan when unidentified armed men opened fire on a Quetta-bound coach, killing three people and injuring five others. In another incident near Dhadar, armed assailants opened fire on a bus, killing a woman and injuring three others. The injured were rushed to a hospital where two more succumbed to injuries.

Meanwhile in Mastung, unidentified people torched two trucks on way to Karachi. No casualty was reported in that incident. The attacks were linked to the 6th anniversary of Nawab Akbar Bugti by the Balochistan Republican Party (BRP), whose leader Brahamdagh Bugti has led an insurgency to secede from Pakistan.

He is the grandson of Akbar Bugti, who was killed during a military operation in 2006.

BRP spokesman Sarbaz Baluch claimed responsibility for the shooting. “We had launched an appeal for a complete strike and the buses bound for southern Sindh and central Punjab provinces had ignored our appeal. We therefore opened fire on them,” he said in a telephone call to AFP.

Sunday’s strike had been almost complete across the insurgency-hit province and had been endorsed by almost all political and religious parties in the province.

HRCP Reports on Baloch Militants victims

The premier Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, after a marathon session of its central leaders in Balochistan capital Quetta, has released a list of the names of victims of militant violence in coastal Mekran divison.

The meeting was attended by H.R.C.P. chairperson Zohra Yusuf and former chairperson Asma Jehangir, who was previously a rapporteur on extrajudicial killings for the U.N. Human Rights Council, H.R.C.P. sources in Quetta said.

A list obtained by this correspondent Sunday from H.R.C.P. sources in Quetta shows there were as many as 54 victims of extrajudicial killings, mostly at the hands of the Baloch militants, in Coastal Mekran since July 2010.

Nearly two dozen killings owned by the B.L.F., including the massacre of seven Pashtun road workers in February 15 and the massacre of five Punjabi youths who were crossing the border.

 The B.L.F. is mostly supported and financed by Baloch living in the Gulf countries, who now dress like Arabs.One of them Shaukat Buledi aka Usman Chamber, who uses the pseudonym Borhan Arifee, sent an email to this correspondent some time back defending the killings. Buledi, who once worked for terror don Dawood Ebrahim in Dubai and who is now considered to be a right-hand man of Dr. Allah Nazar, said, "B.R.A. (Baloch Republican Army)ranks top as far as killing of traitors is concerned.


Buledi also advocates the killing of all members of the Mengal family -- Sardar Ataullah Mengal and his son Sardar Akhtar Mengal were both chief ministers of Balochistan. Likewise, according to Buledi leaders and members of the National Party desrve to be killed as he says the party is a "network of spies."

Some Baloch Human Rights Council leaders in Canada are widely suspected to be closetted members of the B.L.F. and believed to have close ties with Buledi. In spite of repeated demands by victim family members, the Baloch Human Rights Council of Canada has to date refused to condemn the acts of violence by the B.L.F.

The two Indian moles, who allegedly got as much as $2 million apiece from R.A.W. over the last decade, have been accused of supporting violence and terrorism in Balochistan.

At least one Virginia-based man, who is nephew of a former Pakistan ambassador and who sometimes says he is Sindhi and other times says he is a Baloch, also got a big bite from the R.A.W. monies.

Pakistan army-related Frontier Corps, Military Intelligence and Inter-Services Intelligence have been accused of crimes against humanity in Balochistan, but sober elements in the Baloch Diaspora say this does not give militant outfits the license to kill innocent civilians.

Baloch Vs Baloch: Bahram Baloch Killed by BLF

Bahram Baloch, 20, son of Qadir Bakhsh, was forcibly disappeared by the militant Baloch Liberation Front from Mand Giyab. He was accused of being a government informer.

His family had run from pillar to post to seek his release and had asked the B.L.F. to provide proof of its allegations, but to no avail. However, sources in Mekran said the real motive of his forcible disappearance and killing was personal enmity.

The body of a bullet-riddled Baloch youth was recovered in Kech area in Mekran.

Pakistanis state forces have been accused by human rights organization of pursuing a kill-and-dump policy, but there have been countless cases where Baloch militants too have resorted to this policy in Balochistan.

The B.L.F. is closely allied with London-based former Balochistan education minister Hyrbyair Marri, who was previously tried for terrorism in London.

BBC Correspondent in Quetta threatened By BLF

Reporters Without Borders is concerned about the fate of Ayub Tareen, a correspondent for the BBC’s Urdu service in Quetta, the capital of the southwestern province of Balochistan, who was forced to leave the city for an undisclosed location after he was threatened by the Baloch Liberation Front (BLF) on 21 July.

“We take these threats very seriously and urge the local authorities to improve the safety of those who work in the media,” the press freedom organization said.

“We support the call by the Balochistan Union of Journalists for dialogue and mediation to settle disputes between the media and the various interest groups in the region.

“Unless the authorities take firm action against those who attack the media, and deploy effective measures to ensure the safety of journalists, we fear there will be no significant progress in the coming weeks.”

Tareen told Reporters Without Borders that he was forced to leave Quetta after the BLF accused him of partisan reporting on its political activities and threatened him.

Several Quetta-based news organizations received a statement from BLF spokesman Basham Baluch issued via the news agency Pakistan News Network International saying it was boycotting the BBC’s Urdu service because of the “partial attitude” of Tareen and adding: “We inform high-ups of BBC to take notice of their correspondent’s partial behavior."

He went on: "Otherwise, we would be forced to take strict action."

The Balochistan Union of Journalists also condemned the threats, describing attempts by the BLF to influence coverage of its activities as “extremely undemocratic, non-political and immoral”.

Tareen was the target of similar threats from the BLF last year, when he was also forced to leave Quetta temporarily.

On 28 May, Vsh TV reporter Abdul Qadir Hajizai was killed by the BLF.

7 Coal Miners killed by Marri's BLA

Seven coal miners, who were abducted by a Baloch militant outfit have been killed, Dawn newspaper reported.

The coal miners were Pashtuns from Swat valley.

The Baloch Liberation Army,which Pakistan says is headed by London-based former Balochistan  education minister Hyrbyair Marri, had owned responsibilty for the abductions last week on his web site run from London.

Marri is also closely allied with a second deadly militant outfit called the Baloch Liberation Front, which is active in Mekran. The B.L.F. has killed 20 people in July alone, including 14 Punjabis, five Pashtuns and one Baloch.

Marri was tried for terrorism in London in 2008. Pakistan president Asif Ali Zardari had played a role for his freedom since Zardari is a bosom buddy of Marri's elder brother Gazzain Marri.

Some U.S. sources say Marri might be re-arrested in the backdrop of terrorist violence in Balochistan.
