Quetta—An amount of Rs. 3.847 million would be spent on for 131 new and 46 ongoing uplift schemes in irrigation sector of Balochistan during the current financial year. The provincial Irrigation department sources told media here that work on Sowantar Dam in Gwadar would be launched during the current financial year and a reasonable amount has been allocated for the purpose.
They said work on several major schemes in the provincial irrigation sector had already been completed with the financial assistance of the federal government. The schemes included Mirani dam, Sabakzai dam, Shadi Core dam and Batozai dam. Besides, 20 new delay action dams in parts of the province have also been construed which would greatly promote provincial agriculture sector. Meanwhile it is reported from Mirpurkhas Sindh that Director Nara Canal area water board Ghulam Mustafa Ujjan has cancelled the leaves of the officials concerned and directed them to remain alert and ensure strict patrolling of canals in the wake of monsoon season.
He was talking to newsmen in Jhuddo town after visiting Baggi minor, fed by Jamrao canal, on Sunday to ensure the availability of irrigation water to tail-end’s growers. He was accompanied by XEN Jamrao Canal Nasrullah Soomro. The director said he was personally inspecting different canals and performance of on-duty staff to ensure the protection of canals.
