The Baloch: Zulfiqar Ali Magsi



* Nawab Zulfiqar Ali Magsi is the 20th and the current Governor of Balochistan Province since February 28, 2008 as well as the chief executive of Balochistan since 14 January 2013.

* Nawab Zulfiqar Ali Magsi born February 14, 1954 in Jhal Magsi, Balochistan. Nawab Magsi did his schooling from Aitchison College, Lahore.

* He is the current Nawab and Tumandar of Magsi Tribe and Chief Executive of Balochistan.

* He first came to politics in 1977, when he won as an independent candidate seat from his native constituency in provincial assembly. However, his family was involved in Balochistan politics before Pakistani independence.

* He remained Provincial Minister Education and Planning and Development in 1988 while he served as Provincial Minister Home in 1990.

*He also worked in the Home Ministry in the 1990s.


* He was the Chief Minister of Balochistan province in the Benazir Bhutto government of 1993–1996.


* He was twice elected as Chief Minister Balochistan and remained in office from 30th May 1993 to 19th July 1993 and from 20th October 1993 to 10th November 1996 respectively.

* In the general elections of 1997 he returned successful as MPA for the sixth time. He did not participate in 2002 elections.

* In 2008 he participated as independent candidate of Provincial Assembly and won his traditional seat.

* His wife Shama Parveen Magsi is daughter of Prince Abdul Karim Khan. She, her brother, Agha Irfan Kareem and his wife Rubina Irfan Kareem are also members of Provincial Assembly of Balochistan.
