Punjab package for Balochistan

LAHORE - Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that inter-provincial harmony will improve due to visit of students of Cadet College Qila Saifullah Balochistan. 

He expressed these views while talking to a delegation of students of Cadet College Qila Saifullah Baluchistan who called on him under the leadership of Vice Principal Abdul Khaliq. He said that the people of Punjab had sentiments of love and brotherhood for their Baloch brethren. 

Shahbaz Sharif announced laptops for the teachers and students of the college. He also announced water filteration plant for the college, Rs30 lakh for the management of college, Rs40 lakh for construction of swimming pool, Rs30 lakh for setting up junior school and a bus for students of Cadet College Qila Saifullah Baluchistan.

The chief minister said that Punjab government had given Rs11 billion of its share to Balochistan in NFC Award and a total of Rs55b of its share had been given to Balochistan during five years.  He said that special quota for students of Balochistan had been allocated in educational institutions of Punjab.

Addressing the students, Shahbaz Sharif said that no nation could progress or achieve a respectable place without education. He said that education, health and law& order are linked with each other.  The Punjab government has taken revolutionary steps for the improvement of education system and empowering the youth which have yielded very encouraging and positive results, he added. 

The chief minister said that allocation of special quota for the students of Balochistan was one of the important steps taken in education sector in Punjab.  He said every child has right over education and Punjab government is providing this right to them. 

The chief minister said that youth would have to play their active role along with government. He said that our elders sacrificed lakhs of precious lives for the creation of Pakistan. He said that Pakistan was achieved so that there should be supremacy of justice, honesty and equality. 

“Unfortunately, corruption, safarish, nepotism and Bradrism have been promoted in the country. Due to four martial laws, the country is lagging far behind. The country is for all of us and we all will have to play our role for its progress,” the CM held.

He said that Punjab government had given gift of a cardiac center to Balochistan and two billion rupees had been released for its construction. The students and teachers of cadet collage paid tribute to the development vision of Shahbaz Sharif and said that Punjab had played the role of elder brother in the real sense.

Balochistan CM donates Rs 100m to flood victims of Punjab

LAHORE: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif visited flood-affected areas for 10 hours on 14th consecutive day on Wednesday and reviewed relief and rehabilitation activities in Multan and Muzaffargarh Districts.
Accompanied by Balochistan Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif visited tent villages near Graywala Pull in Multan District. According to a handout, two of Balochistan’s provincial ministers, Sarfraz Bugti and Abdul Rahim Zayaratwal, also accompanied them.

Chief Minister Baloch also gave a Rs 100 million cheque as financial assistance and 3 truckloads of relief items for the flood victims of Punjab Province. Addressing the calamity-hit people, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said that the people of Punjab would always remember love and brotherhood shown by the Balochistan government and people at this moment of need. He said that while the chief minister of Balochistan has come to flood-hit people of Punjab, the chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was participating in dance and music programmes in Islamabad, also leaving alone the distressed people of his own province. He said that 30 people have died in floods in Khyber Pakhtunkhawa while the chief minister of the province was enjoying musical gala.

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif said that the Punjab government would extend help to the flood-hit people and would not rest content till complete rehabilitation and payment of compensation to all of the victims. He reiterated that the first instalment of the compensation would be paid to the victims before Eidul Azha.
The chief minister further said that besides financial assistance, seeds and fertilisers would also be given to the flood-hit farmers so that they could cultivate their lands and make the country prosperous.

Earlier, Chief Minister Shahbaz received Chief Minister Dr Baloch and members of his ministerial delegation at the airport.

Punjab to fund Balochistan projects

LAHORE - On the special directions of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, the Punjab government will provide cooperation for construction of two parks and designing and renovation of an important road for the people of Balochistan.

During the visit of Balochistan Chief Minister, Dr Abdul Maalik to Lahore, it was decided that Punjab government will assist Balochistan government in designing and renovation of two parks and airport road in Quetta.

The Punjab chief minister Punjab has ordered immediate implementation of the decision regarding designing and renovation of airport road and construction of two parks in Quetta. Punjab government will provide all funds in this regard and it would be a gift for the people of Quetta.

Meanwhile, former federal minister Ejazul Haq met Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif here on Friday. Political situation of the country and national issues were discussed in the meeting, according to an official handout,

Meanwhile, Assembly members of various districts called on the Punjab chief minister and informed him about the pace of ongoing development projects in their respective areas.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister said that service to the people was the pivot of politics of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and it is serving the people of Punjab with honesty and commitment for the last five and a half years. He said that mega projects worth billions of rupees had been executed across the province. He said Punjab was rich in mineral resources which could be utilised for achieving the goal of self-sufficiency.  He said that a solid strategy has been adopted for fully benefiting from mineral wealth in the province. He said that a number of welfare programmes were continuing successfully for bringing the deprived segments of the society into national mainstream.  Those who met the Chief Minister included Syed Muhammad Asghar Shah, Rana Muhammad Afzal Khan, Muhammad Afzal Khokhar and Rais Mehbob Ahmad.

Beloved Brother Balochistan

The signing of MoUs between Punjab and Balochistan governments will further improve inter-provincial harmony and an atmosphere of brotherhood, said Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif while talking to journalists after three memorandums of understanding were signed between Punjab and Balochistan governments on Thursday for promotion of cooperation in solid waste management, urban development and parks and horticulture sectors.

Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif was the chief guest on the occasion. Provincial Minister for Law and Local Government Rana Sanaullah Khan and Balochistan Minister for Local Government Sardar Mustafa Khan Tareen signed the MoUs under which Punjab government would provide cooperation to the Balochistan government in solid waste management, urban development and parks and horticulture sectors in Quetta. Punjab government will also provide expertise to Balochistan government in these sectors. Punjab government will provide all out facilities to Balochistan government in disposal of solid waste in Quetta while the urban unit of Punjab government will provide necessary skill to the Balochistan government in master planning of the cities, solution of problems through information and communication and monitoring of development schemes. Similarly, Parks and Horticulture Authority would provide expertise to the Balochistan government regarding development of parks and horticulture.

He said that the recent visit of local government minister of Balochistan to Lahore has strengthened the relations between the provincial governments. He said that Balochistan government headed by Chief Minister Dr Abdul Malik Baloch is striving for improving the situation in the province. He said that Punjab government will do its best for Balochistan and is ready to serve the Balochi brethren. He said that people of Punjab donated generously for the relief and assistance of earthquake-hit people of Awaran and relief items worth crores of rupees were sent to the area. He said that quilts and blankets were also arranged for the calamity-stricken people under winter package. He said that Punjab cabinet, assembly members of Muslim League-N, philanthropists and officers and staff of the provincial government also made generous donations for the help and assistance of the earthquake- hit people of Balochistan. He said that help and assistance to the people of Balochistan in the hour of need was a national responsibility which was discharged efficiently and it has helped improve mutual relations.

Shahbaz Sharif said that agreements signed between Punjab and Balochistan governments for the promotion of mutual cooperation would further improve ties between the two provinces. He said that Punjab government is ready to extend cooperation to other provincial governments as being a bigger province, Punjab has a greater responsibility. He said that funds have been allocated for setting up a cardiac hospital in Balochistan and now Balochistan government should make further progress so that the project of hospital could be completed. Shahbaz Sharif said that holding of local bodies’ polls in Balochistan is a welcome step and all its credit goes to Balochistan government and the people. However, he said, the matters regarding conduct of local bodies polls in Punjab is up to the judiciary and Election Commission has informed the Supreme Court that LB polls cannot be held within the deadline. He said that every decision of the Election Commission would be implemented.

Speaking on the occasion, Local Government Minister of Balochistan Sardar Mustafa Khan Tareen said that Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif and his colleagues have extended deep respect and love to the Baloch delegation which would further strengthen brotherhood between the provinces. He said that Balochistan now has a democratic government in the real sense which will make up for the excesses committed in the past. He said that transfer of power to the genuine public representatives of Balochi people by the prime minister is unprecedented. He said that he has seen and learnt a lot in Punjab and Lahore is indeed making rapid progress. He expressed the hope that Punjab would have made more progress when he came to Lahore next time. He said that Shahbaz Sharif and his team were the first to reach the earthquake affected people of Balochistan and took part in relief activities. He said that the way Shahbaz Sharif took an active part in relief operation for earthquake people shows that his heart beats in unison with the people of Balochistan and this attitude has proved very helpful in the promotion of mutual unity, brotherhood and interprovincial harmony. He said that earlier, people were running away from Balochistan but now the situation is different and they are talking of unity and peace. He thanked Shahbaz Sharif for extending cooperation in different sectors and said that it is a good beginning and would help in progress of the country.

Al-Khidmat Punjab Presents Cheque of Rs.1,700,000 for Balochistan Earthquake Victims

President Al-Khidmat Foundation Punjab, Rao Muhammad Zafar presented a cheque of Rs. 1.7 Million for the relief & rehabilitation of Balochistan Earthquake victims to President Al-Khidmat Foundation Pakistan, Dr. Hafeez ur Rehman in a meeting at Lahore. In addition to this amount AKF Punjab's total contribution has reached at 6 Million PKR.

A review meeting on Balochistan Earthquake Al-Khidmat Relief work has been arranged in Al-Khidmat Head Office Lahore. President Al-Khidmat Foundation Pakistan has paid special compliments on the good effort of AKF Punjab regarding Balochistan Quake victims.

Apart from this, Al-Khidmat Foundation Punjab also sent Eid Gifts on Eid ul Adha comprises of cash Rs. 200,000, 1,000 Suits of Rs. 700,000, 250 Ration packs of Rs. 650,000, meat of Qurbani, mineral water bottles, milk packs & general medicines as eid gifts for earthquake victims of Balochistan.

Punjab gives Rs100m goods for Balochistan quake victims

QUETTA: The Deputy Speaker of Punjab Assembly, Sher Ali Gorchani, visited the earthquake-hit Awaran district on Wednesday and handed over relief goods worth Rs100 million to the Balochistan government on behalf of the Punjab government under the Chief Minister’s winter relief package.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Gorchani said that people of Punjab would continue to support their quake-hit Baloch brethren till their complete rehabilitation.

“The people of Punjab will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with Baloch people during this hard time,” he said.

He said 30,000 blankets and 60,000 quilts had been provided to earthquake survivors in Awaran. He said the people of Punjab had so far sent relief goods worth over Rs280m and contributed Rs259m to the Balochistan Relief Fund.

Mr Gorchani said the Punjab government would establish a modern hospital in Awaran and construct a model village. He said that children of Awaran would also be granted admission to medical colleges of Lahore.

The deputy of speaker also visited Mashi, a village badly affected by the earthquake, and distributed relief goods among people.

Talking to the area people, he said there was close coordination between governments of Balochistan and Punjab about distribution of relief goods.

He gave away winter relief packets among the area residents.

A senior leader of PML-N Saleem Saif Ullah Khan gave a cheque for Rs. 10 million on behalf of Saif Group, Chairman Flour Mills Association Founder Group Bilal Sufi Rs 2.7 million, MI Khurram Rs 2.5 million on behalf of Quaid-e-Azam Industrial Estate, Commissioner Rawalpindi Rs 5.5 million on behalf of various personalities of the city, Meezan Bank Rs two million, Shahid Hussain Rs one million on behalf of Service Sale Cooperation Limited, Sadiq Saleem Rs eight lakh on behalf of Crescent Textile Mills Limited, prominent social worker of Okara Mian Rashid Rs. five lakh, Waseem Ahmed Mehmood Rs one lakh on behalf of Shezan International, while Member National Assembly from Bahawalpur Begum Sabia Nazir presented a cheque for Rs 50,000 each.–Staff Reporter

Balochistan students highlight provincial issues at LUMS

LAHORE: The students of Balochistan have expressed concerns over the issue of missing persons, lack of quality education and opportunities, aftermaths of Awaran earthquake and the long term effects of the nuclear testing in Chagai in 1998 during their visit to the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS).

A delegation of students from various universities of Balochistan visited LUMS for a discussion on problems facing the province.

This event was part of an effort by the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS) de-radicalisation programme to reach out to young people in Balochistan who want change in their province in terms of educational and professional opportunities. At LUMS the visiting students met representatives of the Law and Politics Society and the LUMS Entrepreneurial Society.

The Law and Politics Society at LUMS is a student organisation aimed at encouraging active participation of students in the exchange of ideas with regard to political and legal issues of international and national importance.

The session was an attempt to bring students from Balochistan on a platform with students from various parts of the country to discuss the issues faced not only by the students but the whole province.

LUMS students were of the opinion that these were critical issues and must be highlighted in the media, if solutions are to be found.

The visit was coordinated at LUMS by the office of Student Affairs, and was attended by LUMS faculty as well as staff and students from Humanities and Social Sciences. Imtiaz Gul, the eminent journalist who is part of CRSS, also attended the session.

The CRSS is a think tank founded by civil society activists who are committed to the cause of independent research and non-partisan analysis to help people inside and outside the country to better understand the country.

Balochistan relief: Punjab MPAs give 21 truckloads of supplies

QUETTA: A 14-member delegation of Punjab Assembly members, after their joint session with members of the Balochistan Assembly visited earthquake affected areas in the province.

The delegation of MPAs headed by Shuja Khanzada and including Ahmed Ali Khan Dreshak, Ayesha Javed, Engineer Qamarul Islam Raja, Faiza Ahmed Malik, Muhammad Arif Abbasi, Murad Rass, Qazi Adnan Fareed, Ramesh Singh Arora, Saadia Sohail Rana, Sardar Vickas Hassan Mokal, Syed Abdul Aleem, Syed Tariq Yaqoob and Syed Waseem Akthar oversaw relief activities and distributed items to earthquake survivors.

Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Sher Ali Gorchani and Sardar Atif Mazari handed over 21 trucks of relief goods on Punjab government’s behalf.

The Punjab government has also announced that it would dispatch three truck loads of relief goods to Balochistan daily. “The relief goods would be dispatched from Rahim Yar Khan,” Gorchani said while talking to newsmen in Hub.

Shahbaz Sharif, Chaudhry Nisar visit quake-hit area to review relief operation in Balochistan

LAHORE - Reiterating Punjab’s resolve to stand by Balochistan in its hour of need, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif vowed to continue with help for rebuilding of the quake-ruined areas.

“Help and assistance is being extended to Balochistan earthquake-affected people and relief goods are being dispatched to the affected areas daily,” he told a delegation of lawmakers on Thursday. “The provincial government has donated Rs100 million to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund for Rehabilitation of Earthquake survivors while Punjab lawmakers donated one-month salary to the fund. Lawmakers are leading the supply-and-distribution process and reporting to him daily" .He added that his helicopter was also being used for the cause while his government planned to construct a hospital in Awaran, the worst hit area.

He told the delegation that a team under Punjab Assembly Deputy Speaker Sher Ali Gorchani has been monitoring relief activities in Lasbela while another squad reached Rahim Yar Khan where a base camp was set up. Shahbaz said the Punjab government has sent 20 truckloads of 10-tonnes relief goods to Lasbela from Rahimyar Khan.

Inspecting the relief activities, PDMA Director General Asif has said 1,896 food hampers and 600 water bottles have been transported to Balohcistan. He said trucks are parked at roadside of helipad at Awaran from where relief items are transported to affectees by helicopter.

He said the schedule of flights from Karachi to Awaran by helicopter has been set as per the weather conditions according to which three sorties are made from morning to evening. Asif said the Punjab chief minister directed to dispatch 90 trucks from Rahimyar Khan to Lasbela and 3,000 food hampers will be dispatched daily by three trucks.

 He said the Punjab government has dispatched 20,000 food hampers for the help and assistance of earthquake affectees.

Punjab govt donates Rs 100m for Balochistan quake victims

CM Punjab With CM Balochistan In Awaran

QUETTA (Online): Punjab Government has donated 100 million rupees to the Prime Minister\'s Balochistan Earthquake Relief Fund.

While, all the cabinet members of Punjab and PML-N MPAs have donated one month salary to the relief fund. Following the earthquake affectees, Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif made the announcement of donation while addressing joint press conference with CM Balochistan Dr. Abdul Malik and Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan here on Friday.

CM Punjab Shahbaz Sharif said that the whole nation, Prime Minister and Punjab government are with the people of Balochistan and would fully support their earthquake affectees of Balochistan.

He further said that they came to express solidarity with victims of quake and offered prayer for their good health. He extended full sympathy to the survivors of the quake on the behalf of the people and the civil servants.

Shahbaz Sharif also promised to give jobs to all graduates of Awaran in Punjab province. On the occasion, Ch. Nisar Ali Khan appreciated the relief work done by army personnel and provincial administration after quake in Awaran. He said that the federal government would extend its full support to the province of Balochistan.

“Baloch students are like my sons”- VC Punjab University

For the first time in Punjab University (PU)’s history its Vice Chancellor (VC) Professor Mujahid Kamran took on 100 Baloch students for free education leading to PhDs with free hostel accommodation and a stipend of Rs 3,000 per month.

The VC has reserved one seat each for Baloch students in all 74 departments for national cohesion, promoting brotherly bonds and for addressing the developmental gap between Balochistan and the rest of the country.

The VC’s landmark decision has sent a positive message to all Balochis and PU has now become the first university in the country where 100 Baloch students and nearly

200 disabled students would get complete, free and best quality education in their chosen disciple.

Mujahid Karman said that he would care for the Baloch students as if they were his own children. He said he was proud of his decision and no grant or financial assistance had been sought from the government by the university.

The PU VC said that Balochistan was blessed with abundant natural resources which were sufficient for the whole country’s prosperity, the only thing the province lacked was education, which was integral for fully exploiting its natural wealth.

Punjab Chief Minister Punjab Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif had also reserved seats for 100 Baloch students in all medical colleges and engineering universities in Punjab for similar reasons, in his earlier tenure.

PU Chief Librarian Chaudhary Muhammad Hanif would also aid all universities and educational institutions in Balochistan to upgrade their libraries according to the latest technology.

Balochistan, Peshawar universities students visit PU

Tuesday, - Lahore—More than hundreds students of Balochistan and Peshawar Universities including girl students along with their teachers on Monday visited the main electronic library of the Punjab University, the largest in the country with a collection of over 550,000 books.

Jointly briefing the visitors, PU Chief Librarian Chaudhry Muhammad Hanif and Haseeb Ahmad, Deputy Chief Librarian told them the centrally air-conditioned library has now been equipped with the latest information technology “Wi-Fi” to facilitate researchers, teachers and students.

They further informed that on the special directive of VC PU Prof Dr.Mujahid Karman, entire data of books had been uploaded on its website “www.pulibrary.edu.pk” for users worldwide. He said that all researchers could use their personal laptops and varsity laptops by using the free latest technology of Wi-Fi system on the library premises which, they added, is a good addition and special facility to researchers.

He said that it was also the largest electronic library in Pakistan with 550,000 rare books and special collections. He said that it had now become a real centre of learning for teachers, students, researchers and scholars.

He said that all latest facilities of IT, Internet and website were available to users without any discrimination. Chief Librarian said, “We have rare collection and volumes of books and scripts which have been saved”.

He said reference books were also available on all subjects for indoor study.

TAXILA, : For Shazia Bugti, her conservative background will not become a hindrance to achieving her goal — to become a CSS officer.

“It is my dream to become an officer and serve my people to get them out of deprivation and extreme poverty”, said the Grade 10 student while talking to this reporter at Heavy Industries Taxila Education City (Hitec).

It was hard to believe that the young girl with bright eyes and confident look belonged to remote and far flung area of Balochistan where for woman getting education is considered a sin.

Shazia Bugti is among 187 students who are getting education at this prestigious institution under federal government development programme for Balochistan and Fata.

As hopes of bright future sprouting in her eyes she said that most of the schools in her area are closed due to lack of staff and other facilities, besides uncertainty in the area. As a result of which the doors of education are closed especially for girls.

Sila Khan, another girl belonging to Lora Lai area of Balochistan, is the youngest among the Baloch students studying at Hitec and is living in the hostel.

She said she felt sad when she left her parents but the motivation of becoming an educated and well groomed youth of Balochistan overcame her sadness.

She said that she was lucky to be selected for studying at Hitec as it would change the fate of not only her community but the whole tribe.

Sumreen, a girl from far flung and remote area of Barkhan District located in the north-East of the Balochistan province said that it was first time that she came out of her district.

She said that the Hitec had given her confidence and power to speak. She said that now during short span of time she was able to fluently speak Urdu and English.

She praised the idea of equipping Baloch youth with quality education so that they could become an agent of change for Balochistan.

Rashida from Naseerabad, daughter of a small farmer, while talking to this reporter said that selecting students from remote and less developed areas and bringing them into a mainstream was a laudable idea of the present government which would remove sense of
deprivation among them.

Brig (retired) Taj Iqbal, Hitec administrator said that the education city was providing quality education under a team of dedicated and professional educationists.

He said Hitec was ready to accommodate more students from Balochistan.

Baloch in Punjab: Latif Khosa, Governor Punjab

Sardar Muhammad Latif Khosa is the Governor of Punjab, and a politician representing Pakistan People's Party.

A former senator and a former Attorney General of Pakistan, Latif Khosa was appointed as the Governor of Punjab by the President of Pakistan after the murder of late-Governor Salman Taseer on 11 January 2011

 He was appointed the Attorney General on 19 August 2008, remained at this post till10 October 2009.

He has also served as Advisor of Information Technology of Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani.

Latif Khosa is a cousin of the former Governor Sirdar Zulfiqar Khosa, former Chief Minister Dost Mohammad Khosa, Inspector General Police Tariq Khosa, Chief Secretary Nasir Khosa

Lahore, The Punjab government on Monday transferred District Coordination Officer Ahad Cheema and appointed him Lahore Development Authority director general.

The government has appointed Noorul Ameen Mengal (special secretary at the Chief Minister Secretariat) as DCO.

Noorul Ameen Mengal belongs to Chaghi District of Balochistan. He is the first DCO belonging to Balochistan in the history of Punjab and the basic purpose of his appointment as Lahore DCO is to express solidarity with Balochistan where a sense of deprivation already prevails among the people regarding merit and resources distribution.

Earlier, Ameen Mengal has served as Gwadar DCO and additional secretary finance in Balochistan. He has also worked as political assistant, Dera Ghazi Khan, and special secretary to the Punjab chief minister.
