ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani said that in order to give a jump start to education amongst Balochistan’s youth, an ambitious programme had been undertaken in all 30 districts, and the number of seats for the talented students from Balochistan would be increased from existing 150 to 500 in the prestigious education institutions of the country.
He was addressing a meeting on “Prime Minister’s Programme for the Talented Students of Balochistan” held at PM House in which it was decided to incrementally increase the number of talented students from Balochistan. The prime minister said education was the most fundamental for human development and the strongest instrument for reducing poverty, improving health and bringing peace and stability in society.
“Under the programme, the selected students would receive education from class VIII to XII in high quality prestigious institutions of the country. At a later stage, a linkage could be developed with the higher education for the beneficiaries of this scheme, he added.
Gilani said that he was pleased to note that despite a very tight timeframe, the Capital Administration and Development Division achieved the target of getting admission for 150 students in the first year of the scheme, 2011.
“It was for the first time that girl students of Balochistan from all 30 districts were availing the facility of quality education at federal government’s expense in reputed educational institutions of the country,” the prime minister maintained.He said that we looked forward to developing leadership qualities, morality and ethics, besides national cohesion through these students as goodwill ambassadors of Balochistan.
